Does OctoRead include books or recommend content sources?

No. OctoRead is a general-purpose reading tool. It bundles no books and neither recommends nor operates content sources. Import only source configurations, TXT / EPUB files, and rules you have the right to access.

How do I import sources and my own books?

Sources import from a local JSON file, a direct link, or a QR code — imports are unlimited, and the free tier enables up to 10 sources at once. Books support TXT and EPUB via Files, AirDrop, or Wi-Fi transfer from a computer; a ZIP containing multiple books can be handled at once. Existing backups can be restored through the migration assistant or WebDAV.

Does read-aloud require a network?

Not necessarily. System voices need no network; online voices do; on-device neural voice packs work offline once downloaded or imported. If an online voice keeps failing, OctoRead asks you to switch to a system voice instead of silently changing the voice behind your back.

Where does my data live, and when does the app go online?

Books, progress, bookmarks, notes, and stats stay on your device by default. Only when you explicitly enable iCloud, WebDAV, online voices, or your own network rules does the corresponding data connect straight to the service you chose; the developer does not proxy these requests. See the privacy policy linked at the bottom of this page.

How does OctoRead make money?

Importing sources and reading are free for the long term, along with import, migration, and all three read-aloud paths. Pro is a one-time unlock for more enabled sources, batch validation, and one-tap voice-pack downloads — no subscription. Final pricing follows the App Store page once launched.

What system version do I need?

An iPhone or iPad running iOS / iPadOS 26 or later.
